Sony has just unveiled its new flagship Xperia 1 V, featuring a unique multi-layered Exmor T sensor for mobile devices, promising to elevate smartphone photography in low-light conditions to a new level.
The OLED display of the Sony Xperia 1 V measures 6.5 inches with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and features a classic top bezel housing a 12-megapixel selfie camera with a 1/2.9-inch optical format sensor.
The rear panel is also covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, but Sony claims it is non-slippery. The smartphone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.
The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-chip system with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of built-in flash memory. Unlike most other premium-class smartphones, Sony's flagship comes with a microSD card slot for expandable storage. The company has significantly improved heat dissipation and reduced camera power consumption, one of the main sources of heat inside a modern smartphone.
Behind the F/1.9 lens is a 48-megapixel image sensor (GSM Arena mentions a resolution of 52 MP, but the video mentions 48 MP) with an optical format of 1/1.35 inches and pixel size of 1.12 µm, which is 70% larger than that of the Xperia 1 IV. The sensor has a 4:3 aspect ratio. Sony claims that the new sensor will allow the Xperia 1 V to perform twice as well as its predecessor in low-light conditions. The company has also finally included a night mode in the camera.
In addition to the main camera, Sony's new flagship features the same 12-megapixel telephoto lens with continuous zoom (3.5x – 5.2x) as its predecessor. Another 12-megapixel sensor is dedicated to the ultra-wide-angle module. The TOF sensor is no longer used, as Sony claims that its artificial intelligence algorithms are so advanced that it has become unnecessary.
