Differences Samsung Z Fold 6 from the previous model?
Samsung has launched a new version of its foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
This device replaces its predecessor, the Z Fold 5, and includes a range of advanced features from the Galaxy AI lineup, similar to those offered in the S24 series. The new smartphone not only received software improvements but also offers several other significant innovations.
Design
Samsung made the new model more compact and lighter compared to its predecessor. Now it weighs only 239 grams, with a thickness of 5.6 mm, whereas the previous model weighed 253 grams and was 6.1 mm thick. The diagonal of the main flexible screen remains unchanged at 7.6 inches, while the outer screen has increased by 0.1 inches.
A smaller hinge also contributed to a more compact appearance when folded. Some may find the new sharp corners on the frame uncomfortable, while others consider them useful for better grip.
The build quality has also improved thanks to the new frame made from more durable reinforced armor aluminum, making it sturdier than the previous model. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 also achieved a higher water resistance rating of IP48, in addition to the previous IPX8.
Display
The Galaxy Z Fold6 display has undergone significant improvements. Its maximum brightness is now 1600 nits, which is noticeably higher than the 1300 nits of the previous fifth model. The outer screen is now brighter, delivering up to 1500 nits compared to the 1114 nits of the previous model.
In the new model, the size of the secondary screen is now 6.3 inches, and it features a wider aspect ratio of 22.1:9, improving comfort when typing text with both hands. The screen resolution has also slightly increased to 2376×986.
The adaptive refresh rate has become more flexible, allowing it to decrease from 120 Hz to just 1 Hz for more efficient energy use, significantly exceeding the previous minimum of 48 Hz.
The size of the internal display remains the same — 7.6 inches, but due to changes in the angles, it feels larger. The aspect ratio has slightly expanded to 20.9:18, and the resolution has increased to 2160×1856. The brightness of the main screen has also increased, now reaching 2600 nits, providing better visibility even in bright sunlight.
Specifications
The fifth model used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset, but the new Z Fold 6 features the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which debuted in the Galaxy S24 lineup. Despite the processor upgrade, both devices maintain the same amount of RAM — 12 GB. The storage options in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 remain the same as its predecessor, with choices of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB.
Although the Galaxy Z Fold 6 features a new processor, its battery remains the same as the predecessor — at 4400 mAh.
Camera
Unfortunately, Samsung did not make significant updates to the camera system in the new Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The device is still equipped with the Galaxy triple camera system. It includes a 50-megapixel main camera with dual-pixel autofocus and an image stabilization system. There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 123-degree field of view. The 10-megapixel telephoto camera supports optical stabilization and autofocus, with the ability to achieve 3x zoom. The novelty is an updated sensor in the ultra-wide-angle camera, although the other camera parameters remain unchanged.
The phone also features two front cameras: a 10 MP camera on the cover screen and an internal under-display camera with just 4 MP. However, thanks to the foldable design of the device, the rear cameras can be used for selfies, which is often more convenient.
