Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2: More Battery Life, a Thinner Case

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 logically continues the idea of the first Ultra, but Samsung has noticeably reworked the areas that have the greatest impact on everyday use. The display has become significantly brighter: peak brightness has increased from 3,000 to 5,000 nits, which is approximately a 66.7% increase. The battery now has a capacity of 800 mAh compared with 590 mAh in the Galaxy Watch Ultra, representing an increase of around 35.6%. At the same time, the case has become 12% thinner despite the larger battery. There is no camera in either the first Ultra or the Ultra2, so it is impossible to compare photo detail or dynamic range in percentage terms. The new model is especially suitable for those who frequently use GPS, take part in sports, travel, listen to music without a phone, or simply do not want to look for a charger every evening. For a student, it can be useful for notifications and navigation, while hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the route tracking and workout features.

The overall design retains its distinctive angular shape but feels more refined. The titanium case measures 47.4 × 47.1 × 10.7 mm, while the watch weighs 61.5 g. On paper, it is still a large accessory, but the reduced thickness is noticeable, especially when the strap is not tightened too much. The new case design integrates the display, bezel, and side elements more smoothly, while the redesigned strap is 26% lighter. As a result, the watch distributes its weight more evenly across the wrist. Titanium feels practical and solid, while the sapphire crystal is less susceptible to accidental scratches. Fingerprints depend on the selected color, but overall the surface does not constantly look smudged.

A Display Designed for Sunlight and Hiking

The biggest impression comes from the 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 498 × 498 pixels. Peak brightness of 5,000 nits is roughly two-thirds higher than that of the previous Ultra, and the difference is most noticeable outdoors rather than indoors. Health settings are centered around Samsung Health, while Galaxy AI features analyze sleep, activity, and recovery, turning individual measurements into more understandable recommendations. The water-related features deserve particular attention: the watch is rated for 10 ATM, has an IP69K rating and EN13319 certification, while diving functions allow users to track depth, time, and water temperature. This makes the Ultra2 much closer to a dedicated sports tool than the regular Galaxy Watch9. At the same time, it does not become an oversized navigation device in the city: notifications, music, contactless payments, and calls remain practical everyday functions.

800 mAh and Less Time Worrying About Charging

The 800 mAh battery is one of the most practical upgrades. Samsung claims up to 80 hours of battery life with the Always-On Display turned off and up to 60 hours with AOD enabled. In real-world use, the figure depends on LTE, GPS, workouts, and screen brightness: several hours of navigation or continuous sensor activity will accelerate battery drain, while notifications, Bluetooth music, and normal daily wear consume power much more slowly. Fast charging can provide up to 40% in approximately 30 minutes, so even a short break is enough to significantly extend the watch's operating time. As a result, the jump from 590 to 800 mAh is noticeable not just in the specifications but in the rhythm of the day — charging can be postponed until later.

After several days with the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, it feels like a more mature version of the first Ultra. It has not become lighter — 61.5 g versus 60.5 g for its predecessor — but it is thinner, has a much brighter display, a battery that is 35.6% larger, and a newer hardware platform. For sports, travel, GPS use, and extended wear, these are genuinely useful changes. Some of its capabilities will be excessive for everyday city use, while the large case will not suit every wrist. There is still no camera, so photography remains a task for the smartphone. However, as a watch for someone who stays active and wants to think about charging less often, the Ultra2 feels like a logical evolution of the previous model.
