At first glance, the Xiaomi 14 and its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13, may seem similar, but when you look at the hardware capabilities and technical parameters, the differences between them become evident.
In the latest model, the top part of the screen features a punch-hole for the selfie camera, giving it a more modern look. The sides of the device are flat. The Xiaomi 13 is characterized by a glossy metal frame and is only available in white. In contrast, the Xiaomi 14 comes in a range of colors: green, white, and black.
The design of the new gadget includes a protruding module with rounded corners, creating a more modern and integrated look. While the camera module on the previous Xiaomi 13 stands out, its design is more conservative and less harmonious with the overall style of the device.
Both smartphones are equipped with 6.36-inch AMOLED displays, but there is a difference in their resolution. The Xiaomi 14 boasts a higher resolution of 2670×1200 pixels, providing sharper and more detailed images. In contrast, the Xiaomi 13 has a lower resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. However, the improvement in image quality is barely noticeable in practice due to the already high level of detail.
The Xiaomi 14 features an advanced LTPO display, which can automatically adjust the refresh rate depending on the content. This smart screen can smoothly change the refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz based on the displayed content. This technology not only provides a smoother user experience when watching videos or playing games but also efficiently reduces power consumption, helping to extend the device's battery life.
In terms of brightness, the Xiaomi 14 can reach a peak brightness of 3000 nits, whereas the Xiaomi 13 tops out at 1900 nits. However, in everyday use, this difference is hardly noticeable, as peak brightness only occurs in specific areas of the screen when playing HDR content.
The Xiaomi 14 stands out as one of the first smartphones equipped with the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. It is worth noting that this is not the first time Xiaomi has been at the forefront of adopting new technologies — the Xiaomi 13, released a year earlier, was also among the first devices to receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip shortly after its official release.
In terms of specs, the top configuration of the Xiaomi 14 offers an impressive 16 GB of RAM, with internal storage reaching up to 1 TB. In comparison, the maximum specs of the Xiaomi 13 were somewhat more modest, offering 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. This significant boost in specifications makes the Xiaomi 14 even more powerful and suitable for the most demanding tasks.
The Xiaomi 14 features a 4610 mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting performance without needing frequent recharges. The smartphone also supports fast charging at 90W, allowing for a quick battery recharge, which is especially convenient for users on the go.
By comparison, the previous Xiaomi 13 model has a slightly smaller 4500 mAh battery, offering slightly less autonomy. Additionally, the maximum charging power of the Xiaomi 13 is limited to 67W, making the charging process a bit slower compared to the newer Xiaomi 14. As a result, the new model demonstrates 7% longer battery life compared to its predecessor.
Among the extensive technical details about the cameras, a few key points stand out: the front camera remains unchanged, while the quality of the rear cameras has improved, with the resolution now reaching 50 megapixels. Additionally, all sensor sizes have been increased.
In low light conditions and daylight, both devices deliver high-quality shots. However, the new smartphone outperforms its predecessor in image quality taken with the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras, especially noticeable in night photography. Meanwhile, the main camera presents a more complex situation: photos from the Xiaomi 13 appear sharper both in the center and along the edges. In terms of video recording, the Xiaomi 14 clearly wins, offering 4K video recording at 60 fps, compared to Full HD at 30 fps on the Xiaomi 13.
