Differences Samsung from the previous model?

Whenever a new FE version is released, it’s always interesting to see how it differs from the standard flagship. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is exactly such a case. It acts like a bridge between the previous generation and the current lineup, simplifying some features while retaining others. On paper, it looks like a “lighter” Flip 7, but in practice, it competes directly with the Galaxy Z Flip 6, as many wonder: is it worth upgrading from last year’s model to the new FE, or is the old Flip 6 still a solid choice?

Design

At first glance, both devices look like twins. They share the same “clamshell” format, which has become iconic for the Flip lineup. When folded, the smartphone easily fits in your palm or pocket, and when unfolded, it turns into a long, elegant display. Convenient and stylish: one motion reveals a full smartphone, another motion folds it back into a compact gadget.

The dimensions of both models are almost identical. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE measures 165.1 mm in length and 71.9 mm in width when unfolded, with a thickness of only 6.9 mm. Folded, it becomes a compact square — 85.1 × 71.9 mm with a thickness of about 14.9 mm. The weight is 187 grams — the same as the Flip 6. This means the feel in hand or pocket is practically identical.

Samsung managed to maintain a premium feel thanks to durable, high-quality materials. The frame is made from the proprietary Armor Aluminum alloy — significantly stronger than standard aluminum and less prone to deformation. The exterior is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, resistant to scratches and minor drops. The main flexible screen is covered with ultra-thin glass (UTG), and the folding mechanism has become more compact and designed for repeated use without creaking or looseness. The device meets IP48 standards: it can handle rain or dust, but immersion in water is not recommended.

The most noticeable difference between the models is the color palette. The Z Flip 6 offered variety: mint, soft yellow, classic black, silver, and exclusive shades like peach or white. The Flip 7 FE is much more restrained, available only in black or white. For some, this is a downside, but others may appreciate the minimalism.

There’s also a difference in finish. The Flip 6 had matte options, which felt nice in hand and resisted fingerprints. The Flip 7 FE has a glossy back, giving it a shinier, slightly more festive look. Fingerprints are more noticeable, so most users will likely prefer a case.

Display

The display is arguably the main reason people choose Flip clamshells. Samsung engineers appear to have followed the “if it works, don’t fix it” principle: both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Flip 7 FE have identical main screens. It’s a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2640×1080 resolution (Full HD+). The image is highly detailed — around 425 ppi, so pixelation is imperceptible even up close. The display supports adaptive refresh rates: from 1 Hz in static mode to 120 Hz in games or scrolling feeds. This ensures smooth interface and video performance while saving battery. HDR10+ support adds depth and brightness, making movies and videos more vivid with realistic contrast.

The display’s brightness is also impressive. Peak brightness reaches 2600 nits, making it readable even in direct sunlight. Indoors, half the brightness is usually sufficient. A few years ago, 1000 nits was considered excellent, so this is 2.5 times brighter.

The Flip’s signature feature is the additional outer display. It’s 3.4 inches, Super AMOLED, with a 720×748 resolution. The refresh rate is lower at 60 Hz, but it’s sufficient for everyday tasks. It shows notifications, music controls, widgets, or quick selfies using the main camera. Peak brightness reaches about 1600 nits, keeping it readable even in sunlight.

Technical Specifications

Here, real differences begin. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 — one of the most powerful mobile processors, built on a 4-nm process, with frequencies up to 3.3 GHz. It performs among the leaders in synthetic benchmarks, especially for graphics and heavy tasks. The Flip 7 FE uses the Exynos 2400, also a modern 4-nm chip, with a maximum frequency of about 3.2 GHz. The gap seems small, but in real gaming or intensive apps, Snapdragon delivers higher results: in AnTuTu, Flip 6 scores about 1.6 million points, while Flip 7 FE reaches around 1.4–1.45 million. The difference exists, but it’s not critical, noticeable mainly in demanding games or video rendering.

For everyday tasks — messaging, social media, browsing, camera use — both phones perform equally fast. Everything opens without delay, animations are smooth. The difference appears when pushing maximum performance: Flip 6 handles 3D graphics faster and maintains more stable performance under prolonged load, as Snapdragon is traditionally better optimized for gaming.

Memory also differs. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, a full flagship, comes with 12 GB of RAM and offers two storage options — 256 or 512 GB. This is more than enough even for high-resolution video or heavy games.

The more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE takes a different approach: it has 8 GB of RAM and storage options of 128 or 256 GB. The difference may seem significant compared to the “pro” model, but for most users, 8 GB is sufficient for multitasking, smooth interface, and running apps.

It can handle a dozen apps, browser tabs, and music in the background. However, those using heavy apps like video editing or storing large media libraries will find the Flip 6’s 12 GB and 512 GB more convenient.

A nice bonus for the FE version is that it comes with Android 16 and One UI 8. Flip 6 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. Samsung promises up to seven years of support for the FE, including major updates and security patches, keeping the phone relevant and secure even after five years.

Another often-overlooked point is wireless standards. Both phones support Wi-Fi 6E and 5G. The new model offers Bluetooth 5.4 versus 5.3 on the predecessor. Flip 7 FE also shows slightly more stable network reception in some tests, likely due to the Exynos modem.

Battery

Battery capacity is the same — 4000 mAh. Charging also remains: wired 25 W, wireless 15 W, and reverse wireless 4.5 W, allowing the phone to act as a “stand” for earbuds or watches.

However, the Flip 7 FE is better optimized. Samsung claims it can play video for up to 24 hours, compared to about 23 hours on the Flip 6. The difference is small, but noticeable in everyday use.

Camera

At first glance, the cameras seem identical. Both have a 50 MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, optical stabilization, and Dual Pixel PDAF, handling most shots from landscapes to indoor portraits. The second module is a 12 MP ultra-wide with f/2.2 and a ~123° field of view, perfect for groups or architecture. The front selfie camera is 10 MP, f/2.4, under the main display.

Where the FE version shines is software. Flip 7 FE has updated image processing: AI better recognizes scenes, renders skin tones accurately, and improves low-light shots. It also supports extended FlexCam, allowing the phone to bend at an angle on a table like a mini tripod — convenient for social media videos, video calls, or group photos without hands.

In good lighting, the difference between Flip 6 and Flip 7 FE is minor: both produce sharp images with wide dynamic range. Outdoors, colors are vivid but not oversaturated, and shadows retain detail. In challenging conditions, the FE handles low light slightly better, reducing noise and balancing exposure for cleaner, more natural photos.

Video capabilities are also the same: both shoot 4K at 60 fps and 8K at 30 fps. Stabilization works well, allowing handheld shooting without worrying about shaky footage.
