Last year, Samsung released the fifth generation of its foldable smartphones, among which the Galaxy Z Flip 5 retained its familiar compact clamshell design but received an improved and larger external screen. Design

One of the standout advantages of the new Galaxy Z Flip5 is its design. The noticeably larger external screen makes this model much more attractive than its predecessor. In its folded state, the Z Flip 5 measures 72 by 86 mm with a thickness of 15 mm, and when unfolded, it measures 71.9 by 165 mm with a thickness of 6.9 mm. The new Z Flip5 is significantly stronger than previous models—it's 25% more durable and also equipped with an improved hinge. This allows it to fold smoothly and without gaps. Water resistance remains at the IPX8 level, meaning the new flip phone is water-resistant but not dustproof.

Both the Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 5 have a circular cutout for the front-facing camera at the top of the internal screen. Additionally, in both models, the fingerprint scanner is integrated into the power button located on the side panel. Moreover, the updated smartphone retains the dual main camera, but it is now positioned horizontally.

The main innovation of the new Galaxy Z Flip5 lies in its improved external display, which has grown significantly compared to the previous model. While the new Galaxy Z Fold5 has increased its screen brightness to 1700 nits, the Z Flip5 continues to use a screen with 1200 nits brightness, just like its predecessor, the Z Flip4. This ensures that the screen remains bright and readable even in bright lighting conditions.

Specifications

One of the key features of the Galaxy Z Flip5 is its improved technical specifications. Although both the Z Flip5 and its predecessor, the Z Flip4, are equipped with 8 GB of RAM, the new model stands out with an increased internal storage capacity of 256 GB, while the Z Flip4 had only 128 GB. Additionally, the Z Flip5 uses the more modern and faster UFS 4.0 storage, while the Z Flip4 is limited to UFS 3.1.

In terms of processors, the Z Flip5 also takes the lead with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm, as opposed to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 found in the Z Flip4. This contributes to faster performance and better app responsiveness on the new device.

As for the battery, both phones are equipped with a 3700 mAh battery and support the same charging: 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. However, thanks to the larger and more functional external screen of the Z Flip5, users may find that their phone holds a charge longer. This is because they won't need to open the device as often to check notifications or perform other tasks, thus saving battery life.

Camera

The new smartphone retains the cameras found in the previous model. This smartphone is equipped with a dual main camera, which includes a 12-megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module. There is also a 10 MP front-facing camera built into the internal screen, ideal for selfies and video calls.
