At first glance, it seems that the S23 Ultra and its predecessor are very similar, and in some ways, this is indeed the case. However, if you examine these models more closely, it becomes evident that they differ both externally and in performance characteristics.
Transitioning to the new model did not bring radical changes in weight and size: the predecessor model weighs 228 grams, and the new gadget is five grams heavier. The sizes of the devices differ minimally, and visually, it's barely noticeable. In terms of design, the changes are also insignificant: the new model has less rounded screen edges, making it fit better in the hand. The S23 Ultra received Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which improves resistance to damage compared to earlier models.
Now, the device's rear cameras are slightly larger in size, and the power and volume buttons have been moved lower on the right side. Otherwise, the device's design remains unchanged.
Samsung has always stood out in the market thanks to its bright and sharp displays with high resolution and wide dynamic range.
Both smartphones are equipped with Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, providing a 6.8-inch screen. This technology ensures an exceptionally high resolution of 1440x3080 pixels, which, combined with a pixel density of 500 ppi, makes the image incredibly sharp and detailed. This feature is especially important for those who value the quality of visual content, whether it's watching movies, TV shows, or gaming.
In addition to excellent clarity and detail, the screens support a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This means that transitions between frames are so smooth that the user barely notices them. Such a refresh rate makes using the device more comfortable during extended work or gaming sessions, reducing eye strain and enhancing the overall perception of scene dynamics.
An additional advantage of the new gadget is the convenient Always On Display feature, which conserves battery life by continuously showing the time, notifications, and other necessary information on your smartphone's screen.
The new gadget features an enhanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, specifically improved for this model. The new S23 Ultra offers better performance compared to the previous model, which operated on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200.
The new gadget has improved memory specifications, offering from 8 to 12 GB of RAM and from 256 GB to 1 TB of internal storage. This significantly exceeds the base volume of the previous model, doubling it.
The new smartphone is equipped with the latest UFS 4.0 memory module, which is twice as fast as the UFS 3.1 used in the previous S22 Ultra model. This significantly speeds up app launches and enhances the overall performance of the smartphone.
Both smartphones have powerful batteries with a capacity of 5000 mAh, ensuring long device usage without charging. Additionally, they support fast wired charging up to 45 W, which allows for quick battery replenishment when it does run low. This is very convenient when you need to charge your phone urgently. There is also support for wireless charging up to 15 W, making the charging process even more convenient—just place the device on a charging station and forget about the cables. Both models also feature reverse wireless charging up to 4.5 W, allowing you to charge other devices.
The new smartphone features an improved main camera with a 200-megapixel sensor, while its predecessor was equipped with a 108-megapixel camera. Samsung explains that the increased resolution enhances the speed and accuracy of image processing thanks to advanced algorithms. Both models are known for their ability to take outstanding photos both during the day and at night. Both models can also shoot video in up to 8K quality with high levels of detail and optical stabilization.
As for the other cameras, they remained unchanged: both the telephoto and periscope sensors are 10 megapixels, and the wide-angle lens is 12 megapixels. The resolution of the front camera has been reduced to 12 megapixels (from 40 megapixels on the S22 Ultra), but thanks to pixel binning technology, this does not degrade selfie quality—the both models provide clear and vibrant images.
The predecessor's cameras allow for professional-quality photography; however, the S23 Ultra processes images slightly better after shooting.
