With the release of the new Pixel 7 smartphone, it's worth paying attention to its updated features and specifications. Let's find out what distinguishes this model from its predecessor, the Pixel 6, and what innovations make it particularly interesting.
Design
Both smartphones are protected to IP68 standards, providing reliable protection against dust and the ability to operate underwater at depths of up to six meters for 30 minutes. They are both made of aluminum, and their screens are protected by scratch-resistant glass. The back of the Pixel 6 features a long black strip, while the Pixel 7 has it in a lighter shade.
Each model is available in three different colors. The Pixel 6 is available in sea foam, coral pink, and stormy black. The Pixel 7 is offered in lemongrass green, snow white, and obsidian black.
Many users will appreciate the reduced size of the Pixel 7 compared to its predecessor. The Pixel 6 measures 158.6 x 74.8 mm, is 8.9 mm thick, and weighs 202 grams, while the Pixel 7 has more compact dimensions of 155.6 x 73.2 mm, a thickness of 8.7 mm, and weighs 197 grams. Although the difference seems slight, it can significantly affect usability: the new smartphone will sit better in the hand and fit more easily into narrow pockets.
Display
The "sixth" smartphone has a display diagonal of 6.4 inches, slightly larger than the 6.3-inch screen of the Pixel 7. The displays of both models are made using OLED technology, have a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. Despite the same resolution, the more compact screen of the Pixel 7 has a higher pixel density — 416 PPI compared to 411 PPI for the larger screen.
Both smartphones feature flat screens with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. A distinguishing feature of the Pixel 7 is its improved screen brightness, reaching a peak of 1400 nits, making it brighter compared to the sixth model's screen.
Specifications
Each of these devices is equipped with Google’s Tensor processor, which is specially designed for the Pixel series. The difference is that the Pixel 7 uses an improved Tensor G2 chip, making it more advanced compared to the previous model. Thanks to this upgrade, the Pixel 7 significantly outperforms the Pixel 6 in everyday tasks and provides more powerful gaming capabilities.
Both devices offer 8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of internal storage options. There is no memory card slot.
Regarding the battery, the Pixel 7 is equipped with a 4,355 mAh battery, which is smaller compared to 4,614 mAh in the Pixel 6. However, Google claims that both devices can function for over 24 hours with regular use.
The main difference between these models is seen in the "Extreme Battery Saver" mode. In this mode, the Pixel 7 can function for up to 72 hours without a recharge, while the Pixel 6 lasts up to 48 hours.
Additionally, both Pixel versions support both wireless and wired charging. Another useful feature is the "Battery Share" mode, which allows you to use your smartphone as a wireless charging station for other devices.
Camera
The cameras on the Pixel 6 and 7 models have the same specifications: a 50-megapixel main lens with an f/1.85 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture. At the same time, the Pixel 7 stands out with a higher resolution front camera — 10.8 megapixels with an f/2.2 aperture, compared to the 8-megapixel front camera on the Pixel 6. This upgrade to the front camera is not surprising, considering Google's trend of maintaining standard specifications for main cameras in the Pixel series over several generations.
