The Ultra smartwatch is positioned by the manufacturer as the most durable device ever released. Ultra is a watch for active leisure. It's truly a bright and interesting product that Apple hasn't treated its users to in a long time.
If you compare the Ultra model and Series 8, both have a square case but differ in many ways. Ultra is a large device, you could even say it's rugged. It's hard to miss on the wrist. The case edges are sharp. The screen size is significantly larger, and the glass itself protrudes above the case. This device is quite difficult to hide under a clothing cuff. The watch comes in a single size—49mm. In comparison, Series 8 is available in 2 more compact sizes: 45mm and 41mm.
The main feature of Ultra is the Action button on the case, which the 8 series does not have. The button is programmable; for example, it can be used to answer calls. So even if you're wearing gloves, you can answer a call right away without removing the gloves.
Both compared devices have the same display—Always-on Retina LTPO OLED. The difference is that the Ultra's brightness is much higher at 2,000 nits, whereas the 8 model has only 1,000 nits.
The Ultra display is covered with protective sapphire glass, which is only available on the stainless steel model of the Series 8.
Both devices are equipped with the S8 processor and watchOS 9, so they are similar in terms of performance, power, and functionality. The menus on both devices are the same, with pre-installed apps and watch faces, and everything else is available for download. However, there are special apps in the store designed exclusively for one model or the other. For example, real-time mapping can only be downloaded on the Ultra. The same applies to the Siren app, which is exclusive to the Ultra—an 86-decibel alarm.
Both devices have the same set of sensors:
ECG;
cycle tracking through body temperature measurement;
heart rate monitor;
blood oxygen measurement.
Sleep tracking, crash detection, and fall detection functions are also retained.
According to the manufacturer, the Ultra can work for just under 3 days without recharging, compared to just 1.5 days for the Series 8. Additionally, the Ultra has its own power-saving mode in addition to the one installed on watchOS 9. Together, this allows you to maximize battery life during long trips.
Choosing the Ultra model is recommended if autonomy and deep activity tracking are important. And of course, this model has a rugged design and effectively emphasizes the user's character.
