Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has announced the long-awaited flagship smartphone, the Mate 50 Pro, featuring advanced capabilities and a range of unique features. The device runs the proprietary operating system HarmonyOS 3.0.
The device is powered by a special version of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. Like the regular version, it has eight cores with a clock speed of up to 3.2 GHz. However, this version lacks a 5G modem, so the new model can only connect to 4G LTE networks, due to American sanctions against Huawei. It comes with 8 GB of RAM, and the built-in flash storage capacity can be 256 or 512 GB.
The device boasts a 6.74-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2616 × 1212 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a touch response rate of 300 Hz. It supports the playback of 1.07 billion color shades. The display is protected by the highly durable Huawei Kunlun glass, which is resistant to scratches and impacts. At the top of the screen, there is a fairly large cutout for the 13 MP selfie camera and a 3D ToF sensor used for facial recognition.
The XMAGE rear camera system, as claimed, is the result of many years of research and development. It provides excellent detail and vibrant colors. It includes a 50 MP module with a variable aperture (f/1.4–f/4.0) and optical stabilization, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle module (f/2.2), and a 64 MP periscope telephoto module (f/3.5). It supports 3.5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. The rear camera also includes a proximity sensor and a laser autofocus assistant.
The smartphone allows you to stay connected even in areas without cellular network coverage, as it can establish communication via the Beidou satellite system. This makes the Huawei Mate 50 Pro the world's first consumer smartphone with satellite communication support. The smartphone app enables users to utilize satellite communication in the absence of a cellular signal, allowing for sending text messages (receiving is not supported) and sharing geotags.
For power, the device relies on a 4700 mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7W reverse wireless charging. It also features Wi-Fi 6 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. It is dust and water-resistant according to the IP68 standard, but Huawei claims that the smartphone can be safely submerged to a depth of up to 6 meters, whereas the mentioned standard allows for submersion up to 1.5 meters.
